Jules Lion was a portrait and miniature painter, lithographer, and daguerreotypist. He was born in France in 1810, a free man of color. In 1840 Lion presented exhibition of daguerreotypes in New Orleans, a year after Daguerre announced his invention. He continued his work in New Orleans, La. throughout the 1840s and perhaps longer.
